How to Embrace Your Natural Beauty One Step at a Time

Because it’s hard to go cold turkey

We really do want to give our face a break though. We’re just struggling with giving up our beloved cosmetics cold turkey. (Seriously, they know us by name and mascara shade at Sephora.) So we’re taking baby steps. And instead of thinking of it as “giving up” our makeup, we’re thinking of this change as “embracing our natural beauty” one step at a time.
Here are some changes you can make, one at a time, to give your face a much-needed break, without baring all:

1. Your natural brows
Whether they’re big, bold, and a tad bit bushy or they’re thin, blonde, and blend into your face – try going a day without filling in your brows. Keep them tidy with minimal plucking, and make sure you rub your face lotion all the way in to give them a slightly darker color without shading them. Use a brow brush to set them in the right place, and pair with neutral eye makeup.

2. Your eyes sans eyeliner
The cat’s out of the bag! Sometimes we forego our beloved cat eye. (TBH this one is definitely the hardest for us to let go.) But after a series of eye irritations, we realized that maybe our peepers needed a breather. So go ahead and rock your normal eyeshadow (we love Bare Escentuals Queen Phyllis combined with Urban Decay “Chopper” from the Naked 2 palette), but skip the eyeliner and head straight for the black mascara to make those eyes pop!

3. The natural color of your lips
Lipstick can totally dry out your pucker. Seal in the moisture by tossing the lipstick (just for a day – don’t freak out!) in favor of a clear ChapStick or nude lip balm. We love Nivea A Kiss of Moisture essential lip care. Add a fingertip of vitamin E oil from the drugstore to the mix for extra shine and max moisture.
